Overview
Pizza is a national staple. It’s one of the foods that built America. Popularized by global giants Pizza Hut and Domino’s, they gave us the deep dish, corrugated boxes, and 30-minute delivery. In addition, we now have stuffed pizzas, stone oven pizzas, flatbread pizzas, and much more. However, when we don’t have time to enjoy that homemade pizza recipe from our favorite local joint, having your air fryer ready and a box of Totino’s frozen pizza rolls is a must. Learn how to make the best air fryer frozen pizza rolls here. Finally, I’ll show you how to get them crispy and plate them in super fun ways!
Frozen pizza rolls origin
Before we learn how to cook them, we should know where our frozen pizza rolls originated. Here’s what I found on Wikipedia. While it’s not always 100% true, it’s interesting nonetheless. Pizza rolls were created in the United States by food industry entrepreneur Jeno Paulucci, who specialized in frozen Chinese food. Jeno’s began using the Pizza Rolls trademark in 1967. In 1985, Paulucci sold Jeno’s to Pillsbury, which owned Totino’s pizza. In 1993, Jeno’s Pizza Rolls were rebranded as Totino’s Pizza Rolls. You can read more about the history here.
Popular frozen pizza roll brands
In my mind, there’s only one brand. There’s Totino’s and everybody else, but that wouldn’t be fair to everybody else. Any brand of frozen pizza rolls will cook up nicely for you. Whether you want a crispy recipe or that softer homemade feel, try a variety of brands to find one that fits your taste. Here are a few popular brands that you may find in your local grocery store.
Cooking air fryer frozen pizza rolls
Needs: Air Fryer, Air Fryer Basket, Frozen Pizza Rolls, Cooking Spray, Tongs (optional), Spices, Sauces, Bamboo Skewers, Plates, Bowls, Napkins
Step 1: Spray
Spray your air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
Step 2: Heat
Preheat your air fryer to 370 for 2-3 minutes.
NOTE: It needs to be warmed up, but not full throttle. You want a nice even heat for these sensitive little suckers.
Step 3: Arrange
Arrange the frozen pizza rolls in your basket, allowing for some space between each piece so they cook evenly. This is an important step in all air fry cooking.
Step 4: Coat
Give the rolls a quick spray with your favorite cooking oil or a quick dusting with some olive oil and place that side down in your basket. Then give the tops a quick spray prior to closing.
Step 5: Cook time
Cook your frozen pizza rolls for 6 minutes and check the rolls to ensure they maintained their structure. Leave the contents in the basket for 1 minute and check the structure again. They will continue to cook due to the heat in the fryer. Check them every minute for up to 4 minutes to get your desired texture.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Overcooking these rolls will cause the seams to split and the contents of the rolls will ooze out into your basket. That’s why you want to check them every minute. Pull them out, plate them quickly, and serve!

The junkie lifestyle
I close out all of my posts emphasizing the same thing. Air frying is a lifestyle. Furthermore, I’ll air fry anything because long-form cooking is not my specialty. I’ll do my best to enhance the flavors of my air-fried food, but I always make sure to add some fruits and vegetables to balance out any meal. You should too. Your body will thank you in the long run. Thanks for reading!

We can’t talk pizza rolls with exploring pizza a little bit more. Check out the Top 10 pizza chains in America and see if you agree with the rankings. Enjoy this content written and researched by Chris Kolmar on February 21, 2021, via ZIPPIA, the career expert. You can learn more about him and read his full article here.
The United States is the largest pizza market in the entire world, gobbling up $46.24 billion out of $145 billion in total worldwide sales in 2020. This demand is only growing, with over 15% more American consumers eating pizza every week than two years prior. Most people tend to associate pizza with large brands such as Domino’s and Papa John’s.
However, chain pizzerias and independent ones actually share a pretty even split of the pie, with each type of business holding 59% and 41% of the market share, respectively. In fact, independent pizzerias actually opened more total stores in 2020, while chain stores showed a small net loss.
Still, if you’re an investor or market analyst, you should probably focus most of your attention on the chain store side of the industry, as they’re the primary force in setting trends and influencing where the market is headed.
The ten largest pizza chains in the United States in 2020 by gross sales were:
- Domino’s Pizza
- Pizza Hut
- Little Caesars
- Papa John’s Pizza
- California Pizza Kitchen
- Papa Murphy’s
- Sbarro
- Marco’s Pizza
- Chuck E. Cheese’s/Peter Piper Pizza
- Cici’s Pizza
