Health Notes
Corn on the cob, also known as maize, is a great vegetable that’s energized the population for thousands of years. It’s healthy, rich in fiber, yet can aid in digestive and eye health. And it’s high in starch, can spike blood sugar, and may prevent weight loss if eaten in excess. If eaten in moderation, it’s a great part of a healthy diet.” - source: healthline.com
Ways to Cook Corn on the Cob
Corn on the Cob is simple, tasty, and crave-worthy! Boiled corn is a safe and simple option, but requires plenty of prep work and precision to ensure you avoid that chewy texture. Grilled corn is fantastic. Simply dunk it in water, drop it on the grill, and walk away. 30 minutes later, boom! Peel back the husks, add some salt and butter, and you’re done.
What if you can’t access the grill? Rain, snow, and regionality may condense your grilling season. Enter the air fryer. It’s ready to go 24/7/365. The hot air circulation generates that even cook needed to enjoy a flavorful bite from start to finish. Let’s get cooking. Just follow my easy air fryer corn on the cob recipe below.
Here’s What You Need
- Corn: 5-6 full-sized pieces of corn.
- Air Fryer: A 6-quart air fryer works well for the family, a 4-quart is better for a couple (or a single serving). If you’re new to air frying, start your research with the Ninja brand and work your way out to other competitors. You can’t go wrong.
- Oil: A variety of oils will do the trick. You can spray your corn with various flavored options like PAM Original or PAM Butter. I prefer regular Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO).
- Toppings (Optional): Salt (regular, sea salt, or Himalayan salt), butter, garlic salt, hot sauce, parmesan cheese.
How To Cook Corn on the Cob
It’s time to prep, friends. The only things we need to do are: (1) shuck the corn, (2) rinse, dry, and cut the ends, (3) slather them with oil, and (4) load your basket.
Step 1: Preheat the air fryer to 380 degrees for 3 minutes
You should always preheat your air fryer for the best results. This high heat will allow you to get a nice, even cook.
Step 2: Prepare your corn
- Shuck your corn, removing the husks and silk.
- Wash your corn and dry them with a paper towel.
- Cut the ends off of each piece of corn.
- Coat each piece of corn with oil. I prefer to use an oil brush and EVOO. Spray oil is fine too.
- Sprinkle each piece of corn with salt (apply evenly across the entire surface area). Don’t apply any butter, it may burn. It’s better to add that afterward.
Step 3: Load the basket
There should be space between each piece of corn. Arrange your corn on the cob in a single layer (no stacking). We want the air to circulate evenly around each piece of corn.
Step 4: Cooking time is just 15 minutes
Cook your air corn on the cob for 6 minutes. Open the basket and flip.
Cook your air corn on the cob for another 6 minutes. This should do it - but don’t remove your corn yet.
Leave your corn in the basket for an additional 3 minutes. Remove and prepare to serve.
NOTE: The final cooking time may vary a little bit based on the type of fryer and the size of your basket. The good news is practice makes perfect!
Toppings and Plating
Toppings
Don’t overcomplicate it. Seasonal sweet corn needs absolutely nothing and still tastes fantastic. If you’re a traditionalist, then go ahead and slather some butter on your corn. As they say on the Food Network, you can never have enough salt. So go ahead and try some sea salt or the pink Himalayan rock salt. Do you need some heat on everything? Then a little pinch of paprika or hot sauce will do the trick. And finally, parsley and parmesan cheese are quite tasty too.
Plating
Have some fun. Boards, baskets, and trendy plates can turn this ordinary side dish into an eye-grabbing dinner centerpiece. Add some color to highlight the golden yellow texture.
